DJ Speedsta has recently disclosed that he used to earn a monthly income of R10,000 during his time at Metro FM

DJ Speedsta recently shared that during his time at Metro FM, he was earning around R10,000 per month. Being deeply involved in the South African Hip Hop scene, DJ Speedsta witnessed a period of success. He consistently released popular songs that climbed the charts and established himself as a prominent figure in the industry.

However, his time working as a radio DJ at well known stations, especially Metro FM, didn't bring him the same level of recognition. Specifically, the financial rewards he received were not proportional to his contributions during that period.

In an interview with Zingah on Choppin It With Bhudha T, Speedsta revealed that he didn't earn a substantial amount of money from broadcasting. "To be honest, I never made a fortune from actual broadcasting. I didn't receive a significant amount at YFM, V Entertainment, Metro FM or Live FM," Speedsta stated.

The artist known as Mayo shared details about his earnings while working at the radio stations mentioned earlier. He mentioned that he received a lower salary at Metro FM compared to the other stations. "When I worked at YFM on Hot 99 and the Hip Hop Floor, my take home pay was around R9,100K after taxes. It wasn't a significant amount of money. However, I earned between R16K and R18K after tax from V Entertainment. So when you add it all up, it came to about R25K, which is not too extravagant," he explained.

Speedsta emphasized that most of his income came from DJing, mentioning that he earned R10K per month at Metro FM. "I didn't make much money from actual broadcasting; I made more through spin offs and even live performances at Metro FM. For the weekend show, I earned R10K a month, I swear to God. From Live Amp, I received about R24K after tax, so let's say around R30K from both jobs," he elaborated.

In 2017, DJ Speedsta joined Metro FM as a co host for a show called Absolute Hip Hop alongside Lootlove and DJ Jawz. Last year, he made an announcement on Instagram that he would be stepping away from Metro FM, stating that he was feeling worn out by various aspects of it.

“We did our thing, Me, Looty, and Jawz. Absolute Hip Hop!! Was so sad to tell auntie Merissa that this was the last invoice we’re doing.???‍ When I was at Y we put people on, When I was at Metro we put more people on. I’m glad I could contribute to the culture. In all honesty, I’m tired!! I’m tired of a lot of things. A story for another day. We out, Thank you and goodbye Metro FM family.??” Speedsta said.
